My Story

Bikinis By Bridget was created summer 2018 by me, Bridget McCluckie. I have always had a strong love for design and fashion. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had this desire to be my own boss.
I started this company from the ground up, one day my friend came up to me telling me she has been struggling with finding the perfect bikini, she wanted something that flattered her body as well as made her feel confident. Since she knew that I knew how to sew she asked me if I could make her a custom bikini. It all started out in my basement making every individual bikini for every customer with their choice of fabric, colour and style. I would make appointments with customers to measure them to make sure the bikini would fit just right, custom made for them. Every customer would recommend my bikinis to their friends and family, and incredibly, six week later I sold over 150 bikinis. That’s when I realized I should turn my hobby of creating swimwear that made my friends feel comfortable in their own skin, into a real business.
I was really inspired by my Mexican heritage and creating something that reflected my cultures bright and vibrant colours. After lots of research, trial and error, I travelled to Mexico to find manufactures, fabric suppliers and professional pattern designers. I discovered that one of the leading causes of pollution in the world currently is clothing manufacturing. Enormous amounts of water, land and other resources are used to create fast fashion. I knew I didn’t want to contribute to these problems, as my passion for the business was not all about success, but about inclusivity, and creating something for me, by me. So I ended up designing my own fabric as well starting my own small batch in house production in Mexico, which means my swimwear is ethically sourced and made in limited collections. All scrapes of fabric are reused to make scrunchies, ensuring that my company's waste production is as low as possible. After a huge earthquake hit Mexico in 2017, which caused many clothing factories to be destroyed, I provided work to some locals that lost their jobs in the factories due to the earthquake. I now have a team in Mexico City which is overlooked by my aunt that lives there. I continue to provide a custom swimwear service which is designed and made here in Canada, this means I get to make something unique and personalized for every customer. Bikinis By Bridget carries high quality fabrics that are made out of nylon lycra, chlorine resistant fabric that have a seamless design, and are stretchy so it keeps its shape while it contours to the body.
As my company grew, I decided to open a store with my sister called Hermanas which means “sisters” in Spanish. Our store is located in cottage country in kawartha lakes, we carry a variety of products from local vendors as well as my own swimwear line and beach accessories. I've created something that is so much more than just a brand but a community with my customers to make them feel empowered, beautiful and confident. I want to encourage other females to do what you love, to follow their dreams and know that no matter who or what stands in your way, no matter who says your dreams are impossible, you can take the steps to achieve them.
